Spectreman is a Japanese Sci-Fi (Monster) show that aired on Fuji TV from January 2, 1971 to March 25, 1972 with a total of 63 episodes and an unaired pilot. It was translated to English and brought to America in the 70′s (when I grew up watching this as a kid). According to wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectreman), it is listed as the first major superhero show of the 70′s.
Spectreman was a super-cyborg agent from the Nebula 71 Star who looked human until he was needed. He could summon his power from his masters to transform into a powerful robot-man to save Earth from giant monsters sent by the evil Dr. Gori (a space gorilla from Planet E.) who wanted to take over the earth.

Spectreman (スペクトルマン Supekutoruman?) is the name and title superhero of a tokusatsu sci-fi TV series. Produced by P Productions and created by producer Souji Ushio, this series aired on Fuji TV from January 2, 1971 to March 25, 1972 with a total of 63 episodes (divided into three segments), not counting the pre-series pilot episode. This was the first major superhero show of the 1970s.
